Book Review: Key To My Soul by Probal Mazumdar

A beautiful journey!
It is from Siddharth's perspective we see the story unfolding and through him, we slowly see the plight of Hazel. A journey of friendship, parenthood, love, pain, separation, hurt, betrayal and reuniting.
Hazel has a lot happening to her in this journey called Key to My Soul. If you think I wept with Hazel, no! But I wanted to know her story.
The innocent love between Siddharth and Hazel is very sweet, their stolen moments equally endearing. Slowly when the endearing meetings become much more, the volatility of the age is reflected.
There is friendships, the bonding, the mother-daughter and father-son bonding. A woman’s position in our society, remarriage for a widow is either frowned upon or in the name of financial security and place in the society she is married to an older man or a divorcee. And her struggles in that relationship further on are never looked upon. There was a slight reference to the scenario but the author did not dwell very deeply in that angle, instead, the mother-daughter bond and their dependence on each other stood out strong.
Through Siddharth’s point of, view his confusion and hurt was clear. But I would have liked more insight into Hazel and her mental state apart from the glimpsed in her brief letters. I wanted to have a deeper connection with her.  And as the story moved on as a reader I felt before their matured romance would blossom slowly, the story quickly wrapped up.  But it was a nice read, a walk down through the innocent first love. An experience one would like to revisit again.
Since the title meant Key to Hazel’s soul I would have loved to delve more into her mind.
A good read we had, my other two and I(The one in white with her pure white wings and her halo and the one in black with her red horns glowing red). The warm smile playing as we wrapped up the book.

Blurb:

There he discovers an eclipsed past buried in time that is riddled with dangerous surprises, trauma, twists of fate, sacrifices that exemplify true love and the real reasons for the tragic end of their childhood love story.
