Book Review – Cabbing all the way by Jatin Kuberkar

Hey guys! Guess where I am siting and writing this review? (the wicked grin and a wink) I am sitting on a chair by the Walmart billing counter waiting for my husband and kids. I know it sounds opposite. But I have my excuse I just had to change the pair of shoes my husband got because it was one size bigger. (the exasperated shrug) yes! He doesn’t know my shoe size The sweet lady who helped me change the shoes asked the same. But I loved her expression she had her hands on her hips looking at me which said "men" and asking " your husband doesn’t know your size?" And ( a deep sigh) he is buying something for his “Car- Grooming” and as always my girls love to accompany him.
So I got this couple of minutes to read the final chapter of Cabbies by Jatin Kuberkar.
I was still reveling in romances when I got this book through the book club from Readomania for the review.

It took me some time to adjust to the slower pace and realistic narration. Even, for a moment it reminded me of the cab moments from One Night @ a call center.  But a couple of chapter and  once into the book I was living and driving through the streets of Hyderabad, it’s traffic congestion. (the gleaming beads of sweat seemed so real when stuck in the traffic jams) I can even see me eating the chats from the street stalls. And of course the Golconda fort: how can I forget. It turned out to be pretty nostalgic for me.
Each character in the book I could relate to someone or the other around me. The cab, the drive to office, the delays, all was nostalgic as there was time when I had commuted via cab through the busy Hyderabad streets.
The excitement of the new cab, everyone trying to bend the cab rules to adjust to their need. Yet oddly, a friendship bloomed between the entirely different individuals.
It reminded me of a disruptive family. (A wicked wink) It did guys! (rolling my eyes) whatever disruption at the end of the day family remains together and it felt the same.
I wondered when the characters were introduced each one of their stories, wouldn’t it be too confusing as of now for me. (As I told before I was still reveling in the romances I read before I had picked this book.) But the story kept to the premise of the cab and at times the cafeteria in their office where the discussions regarding the cab happened.

A cool, steady and different read.

    3. I believe you can't categorize a city good , bad or ugly. Especially a city like Hyderabad with its rich history,it had its glorious moments and sad. But here in this book its completely practical.
